Three ways to get noticed at work

Some pointers that I've got are:
1. Show substance
2. Display your style
3. Have a story

On Show substance

• Instead of wondering how you can promote yourself, think about the skills you have that are worth promoting. Are you known for your integrity and discipline? Would your boss think of you first when he has an important project to be done? Would he trust you to complete it?

On Display your style

• In a company, how you carry yourself is as important as how knowledgeable you are in your job. The way you work and carry yourself leaves a lasting impression on those around you.
• When you present a business report during meetings, do you project confidence? When you meet a client with your boss for the first time, do you make a strong impression? When asked for your opinion, do you share meaningful perspectives and innovative ideas?

On Have a story

• Focus on touching narratives that tug at the heartstrings. By sharing the passion and interesting hobbies with your boss and colleagues, you come off as a real, live, three-dimensional being with a heart and soul. You become a lot more interesting and noticeable, without having to toot your own horn.
