Make the most of your job interview

On Do your research

• Being knowledgeable about the company you are applying to gives you an advantage over others during your interview. But most importantly, it gives you an insight into the company's structure, credibility and culture to see if its environment suits you. 

On Know what to expect

• Asking job related questions during the interview gives the impression that you are genuinely keen about contributing to the company.
• One of the most important questions to ask is about your expected job scope. Knowing what you are signing up for helps you to make informed decisions before hand. That way, you can be mentally prepared for the daily work routine. 

On Progression opportunities

• If you would like to grow in the company, ask your potential employer if there is mobility within the organisation so you can climb the ladder. 
• It is good to have some transparency on the job you applied for. Take this opportunity to express your interest in progressing in the company. Get the details on what your expected key performance indicators (KPIs) are, and don't be afraid to ask the interviewer to suggest tips on how to meet the KPIs. Employers are more than happy to share what they expect from their employees.
• Not only will this prevent misunderstandings if and when you join, but it enables you to decide if the job is the right fit before accepting the offer.

On Dress right

• Be sure to dress appropriately to impress the interviewer. Like your resume, your outfit for the interview should be appropriate for the industry you are in.
