Stop your bad work habits now

This post came out from The Straits Times (15 April 2016)
Title - Stop your bad work habits now

Some pointers that I've got are:
1. The Good and The Bad
2. Obstacles to overcome
3. Commit yourself

On The Good and The Bad

  • Doing well at work goes beyond turning up for work on time. Cultivating good habits of having a can-do attitude, being an attentive listener, and having a commitment to excellence in your work can help you build a good reputation at work.
  • Tardiness in deadlines, displaying the 'lone wolf syndrome' and being critical shows a lack of professionalism and give others a negative impression of you.
On Obstacles to overcome
  • The first is the lack of self esteem. This causes a person to enter a destructive cycle out of a fear of change.
  • Poor disciple and a lack of will power also cause an employee to repeatedly fall back into old habits.
  • Lastly, the lack of courage to face difficulties can prevent an employee from surmounting difficulties encountered along the way.
On Commit yourself
  • The key to having good habits is to practice. Identify what you want to change and achieve. It is important to be specific. Once you have decided to inculcate a positive habit, it makes it easier to work towards your goal.
  • Once you have done so, work the habit into your schedule and practicing it daily.

Yours,
Something Small Thinking Big
