Beat Procrastination and Start Achieving

This post came out from The Straits Times (4 June 2015)
Title - Beat procrastination and start achieving

Some pointers that I've got are:
1. Why do people procrastinate
2. How to reduce procrastination

1. On why do people procrastinate
  • Inadequate skills or knowledge
  • Lack of interest
  • Low Morale
2 On reducing procrastination
  • Changing mindset - Understand that the task still has to be completed
  • Get your perspective right - Dwelling too much on a problem may magnify it. Step away and don't let the fears overpower you
  • Just do it - Put reservations aside, get started
  • Start with the hardest task - With the hardest job out of the way, the easy jobs will take care of themselves and will seem relatively easier
  • Break the task up - Compartmentalize into smaller and manageable chunks
  • Reward yourself - Reinforces positivity and encourages you to finish other small tasks to get rewards
  • Set a timeline - Commit to finish the job and enables you to gauge your progress more accurately

Yours,
Something Small Thinking Big
