Define your own success

This post came out from The Straits Times (24 July 2015)
Title - Define your own success

Some pointers that I've got are:
1. Invest in yourself
2. Take control of your career
3. Calibrate your mental bandwidth

On Invest in yourself

  • Most people will wait to be sent to workshop and upgrades. We should not wait for things to happen. Time is our only resource, not money.
  • Chasing for an opportunity is, in fact, easier rather than waiting for one. When you invest in yourself and invest early, you will open up opportunities that are easier for you to achieve.
On Take control of your career
  • You must take the time to design your career success blueprint. To take control of your career direction, as well as the milestones you would like to achieve, work out your career blueprint.
  • When you decide to take control you not only create fun at work, but fun in work. People can only have fun in work if their Growth Indicator increases. The more you increase that, the more fun you will have.
On Calibrate your mental bandwidth
  • We have to work for money, but we should live for meaning. If we can manage our money well, we  will invest a lot more time to create meaning and growth in our work by building relationships with people and making a difference. This is how one should work towards a promotion.
  • Don't allow your thinking to become trapped. A worker with trapped thinking will just do the very minimum because he thinks that no matter how hardworking he is, he will only get the same salary every month.

Yours,
Something Small Thinking Big
